Revell’s Halifax in 1/72nd Scale – Photo-etched Set (Part 1)

What else can we say about the model? The plastic parts are very nice and as we know, the photo-etched sets for good-quality kits sell very well, so that’s the main reason why we decided to design the PE sets for the new Revell’s Halifax.

Karel Krejci reviewing the Halifax kit and identifying the parts which need some improvement.
We want to also offer you a detailed insight into the process of designing detail sets, so in the following days, we’ll be publishing more articles related to Revell’s new Handley Page Halifax.
Right now, there is a preparation phase and we are at the very beginning of the project. We went through our library and digital archive and looked for the files focused on Halifax. When the final selection is made, the next step follows: the comparison of the plastic parts to the pictures, drawings and other documents from our archive. This helps us to identify what part of the Halifax kit needs to be replaced or improved using PE parts.

Complete new engines and propellors please! This kit is worse than the old Matchbox tooling for accuracy. the nacelles are too big, spinners too blunt, prop blads wrong shape for Rotal, wheels too small. Must I go on?
I do not suppose EDUARD can make it from PE, Colin. The model indeed needs new engines, spinners, props, wheels (bigger) and some more adjustment, but first of all the engines which have to be made from resin with adjacent parts of wings, to fill gaps. This correction will demand lot of plastic surgery on wings.
Colin is absolutely right. this is a great kit, but fundamentally, and fatally, flawed by the engine nacelles. Whjile most modellers can fix the prop blades, and could do a job on the spinners, the nacelles are just too big, and spoil the kit.
If Eduard were to combine with CMK on this, to produce the usual great Eduard PE sets for the details, with CMK doing new resin nacelles, wheels etc, then you would have a winner!
Hi Prenton,
What makes you think we can’t make the resin parts ourselves, that you suggest to the coop with CMK?:)
Btw. thanks for your feedback guys!
