MiG-21BIS – Final Sprue Testing

Specifically, we’ll be talking about the last sprue that will make the MiG-21BIS kit complete.
MiG-21BIS 1/48 in ProfiPACK has been already released. Click here to go to the product page.
The “J” sprue for our new MiG-21BIS was tested last week and first molds of this sprue went just fine. This specific sprue contains rudder, spine and antennas. These are the main parts which make MiG-21BIS different from other MiG-21 versions.

MiG-21BIS J sprue - almost perfect
And why do we consider this first test as successful? It’s mainly because of the small parts of MiG-21 BIS kit, which were injected perfectly. It usually happens that during first tests, smaller parts do not inject very well and the intake holes or pressure need to be modified. It didn’t happen this time, which is good as we could go straight to final touch-ups and second test of this sprue.
Our new MiG-21 BIS 1/48 will be released in December 2011, in ProfiPACK line. You’ll be able to find it at Eduard Store, or in your local hobby stores under catalog number #8232.
Next week, you can be looking forward to more posts, photos and information related to this long anticipated kit. Until then, enjoy several photos made during the first test of the J sprue.

That sprue looks good. WIll it be the only new sprue for the MiG-21bis, or do we also get a retooled fuselage?
Still waiting to see the new fuselage. After all he research done it’s the one hope.
That sprue looks very good! I am really curious about the the “rest” of the model. Keep us informed please!!!
Hello, I’ve seen the boxart and posted a message on the Aeroscale.co.uk forum.
This was the MiG-21 version I wanted, so I’ll definitely get the Profipack box.
The boxart shows a Finnish aircraft. Which other liveries are we going to see? Hungary and Poland maybe?

Thanks!
Hmmm… the Hungarian one with the white tail looks quite interesting!
Thanks for all your comments guys!
We’ll be posting separate articles on both – marking selection and fuselage retooling very soon. And there are even more articles planned to be released during next week. Check back soon.
We just love to see such interest! Thanks to all of you for being around.
Another great 21 in this great series.
I’m building one myself at the moment and these kits are just awsome!
Looking forward to this one
It looks great!
I hope the same attention to detail goes into the proposed Phantom series which is what I’m really waiting for.
Very nice, I’m sure! Any word yet on the MiG-21F-13 variant?
Philip,
We’ll start working on the 1st generation machines during 2012. Currently, we’re purely focused just on this release.
Just curious… the Profipack version will include resin parts, right? If so, what?
The ProfiPACK version doesn’t include any Brassin accessories. But don’t worry, the kit will look just perfect even without them. We plan to release Brassin details for this kit during January-February 2012. If interested, check back for detail sets #648048,#648050,#648051. It’s all matter of your own choice.
Thanks Libor!
I’m not familiar with resin, so the PE will be great to me, especially if pre-coloured seatbelts and panel are included!
OMG I thought 4 MFs and 1 SMT was enough but now I want at least 3 Bis as well, can not wait for the earlier generations to complete the story and of course a two seat Stress Team example would be good.
As for resin I am happy with just brass and add the resin if I need/afford it rather than have a more expensive base kit. so far I have built one MF with and one with out and unless you open the cokpit it is hard to tell which is resin and which has not as the base kit is so good
iam sorry is there some sort of a rod shaped thing on the starboard side of the spine just ahead of the fin leading edge?? never seen that on an Indian Bis ???
Hi Line Scriber,
On the panel immediately after the fuel tank (before the fin) there is a long “bump” to cover some of the additional equipment inside this compartment. It sticks out from the surface about 3 cm and it is 62 cm long. OK, I heard the argument before in connection with this kit that 3cm on the 48th scale model will be just 0.625 mm and no one will see it. You can say that, but it is there! It had to be pointed out to the Eduard designers with photos and measurements. So if it is not on the Indian aircraft please blame me, but it is on all the other production MiG-21 bis. I have not had the chance to have a look at Indian AF examples, but if it is not there it would not be a great problem to sand this area smooth.
Seeing the test spue I would say that the “bump” could have been blended in more with the surface as on the real aircraft.
Best regards
Gabor
Hello Line Scriber,
Had a look at available photos and the bump is there on the Indian AF versions too. It is there on the upgraded examples also. Here please note that the upgraded ones also have an additional AOA sensor, the DUA not only on the left side of the nose but also on the right side too.
Best regards
Gabor
Hey Gabor
Iam truly sorry about that .just went out and checked it on the a/c, you are absolutely right, its there but very shallow, never noticed it all these years !
sorry for the confusion. some sanding will be required off course!! there are many detail differences in the Upgraded Bis (BISON) too.
Scriber
Hi Line Scriber,
Good to hear from you. Yes, I know the feeling, most of our crews have not noticed it, even though they were working with the planes for years! It is very shallow and it was not easy to show on photos to the Eudard designers what I ment by this bump. Since then I made some more specific photos of this area. Some of the other surface details (bulges over the wheel wells) are also a little over emphasized on the kit but it is possible to correct them.
The upgraded Indian bis is an interesting subject and it would require a whole conversion set, I dont think it would be ever in Eduards plans.
Best regards
Gabor
well ill scratch upgrade your bis and show it to you one day!!!
take care
I`ll waiting, only one sugestion sold with option “extra trees”, and please make the versions PF and PFM
